I LOVE afternoon tea. What's not to like about an in-betweeny meal that's mainly cake?
With Mum and Dad
It was recently my Mum and Dad's 40th wedding anniversary and I bought them afternoon tea at the Royal Albert Hall, a spectacular venue that mum remembers visiting as a child which when combined with Dad's sweet tooth seemed like I was on to a winner.
They sweetly invited me so we could catch up after a few busy weeks.
The food was really elegant and intricate, all tiny squares of bread that looked like they'd been trimmed with the help of a ruler. For me, it's the sign of a classy establishment if they can make an egg sandwich look posh.
With our tummies starting to feel a bit full (and we'd only had the sandwiches) we were then faced with scones. I just had 1 as stodge makes me nap and I knew I had a long bus journey ahead of me to get home. If i fell asleep I might end up in Catford.
It was lovely to catch up with Mum and Dad. Dad's growing a beard and is starting to look a bit like Santa must have looked in the early days. Or a badger.
